Finding Justice and Hope Behind Prison Walls
When charitable giving involves helping someone who has been incarcerated away from a school or public place; charity must go to where there is no longer hope or the person feels disconnected from society.
The Nudge Bridge Initiative (NBI) conducts outreach to the Nigerian Correctional Service in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State as part of our routine outreach programme. The purpose of the mission is to restore dignity, justice and revealing humanity to those that have been incarcerated.
Giving support to the forgotten.
Our team of volunteers visits the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Uyo with a primary purpose, to let all the inmates know that they are of value and should have hope, help, and a new beginning as a person.
During these visits, we give out sanitary napkins and other personal hygiene items to assist with hygiene and good health. While we consider these items to be common everyday items; they are very rare and needful in prison and are essential for someone to feel like they have dignity and self-respect.
However, the mission of NBI goes beyond delivering goods. It is about showing true compassion and empathy, listening to the inmates’ stories, and providing encouragement and support to those that are facing very difficult times.
Providing legal assistance for inmates is one of the best aspects of this outreach.
Many people sit in prison awaiting their trial because they are unable to post bail or because of slow court proceedings. Because we know how pressing these situations are, our team of lawyers has reviewed every single inmate case and have agreed to represent those who have a pending trial.
Additionally, we are working on paying bail and fines for selected inmates so that they could return home to their families and begin reconstructing their lives.
At The Nudge Bridge Initiative, we strongly believe no one should be kept from receiving justice because they do not have the financial resources or access to the legal system.
Rehabilitation and Second Chances
The purpose of prisons is to positively change and rehabilitate an individual. Unfortunately, this cannot truly occur if an inmate feels completely alone and without any support from the outside world while serving their sentence.
Our outreach shows that rehabilitation is possible when a person shows compassion to another instead of passing judgement against them. Everyone deserves hope and direction regardless of what they may have done in their past and/or are currently experiencing. Our acts of service help to provide a bridge between punishment and rebuilding a life, reminding an inmate that he/she is not forgotten.
Creating an Inclusive Community
Through the Nudge Bridge Initiative, we are committed to supporting at risk individuals, advocating for just solutions and restoring dignity to marginalized populations.
The purpose of our prison outreach program exceeds visiting inmates; it is to reaffirm our quest for the humane treatment of every person, even those in prison.
We need your financial support to enable us put in place rehabilitation opportunities for those coming out from the prison, to enable them have a life after their prison experiences.
