Faces of Impact: Women in Empowerment Program (WIEP)
When a woman is empowered, she uplifts her family and the community around her.
Each day, market women are the silent defenders in our neighbourhoods. They often wake up before the sun rises, take care of a million responsibilities, and still work hard for her family to have enough food. Unfortunately, many market women have barriers to overcome – little cash flow, no access to business education, and little time in the day for empowerment.
At Nudge Bridge Initiative, we did not see women selling goods at crowded markets, we saw resilience, unrealized possibilities, and inherent dreams.
With small-scale business support, mentorship, and focused capacity-building sessions, we have empowered over 9 market women with the skill sets to be ambitious and to thrive after mere survival. This was much more than a lesson in numbers or trade; it was a lesson in confidence, personal dignity, and purpose.
We have had amazing stories happen
• A tomato seller that had the capability of reconciling her sales month-end, saving, and investing her savings appropriately.
• A mother that started saving money for her child school fees.
• A woman who felt recognized, supported, and valued for the first time in her life.
When women are uplifted, families are more resilient, children experience improved caregiving, and communities are more vibrant. But we know that is just the start. Thousands of market women continue to be unseen, holding their silent suffering in the heart of our markets.
With a little more collaboration, sponsorship, and support, we can widen this uplift to new markets, new women, and new families. We can strengthen the backbone of our communities, one empowered woman at a time.
